In 2026, I still keep a small notebook of old Destiny 2 seasonal challenges, and the third week of Season of the Haunted reads like a tide chart drawn by someone who had never seen the sea: familiar shapes, strange timing, and a lot of patient waiting. These challenges are not live objectives in the current game, so I treat them as archival notes from a past season. Back in that season, the third weekly set offered ten challenges that granted XP, Bright Dust, and Figments of Darkness. Most were gentle, and three were retroactive, which made the list feel like a borrowed coat with extra pockets. I remember opening the directory, seeing the Leviathan and Throne World tasks, and deciding to chip away at them between other activities.

Sorrow Bound III

My first stop was the seasonal storyline. Sorrow Bound III asked me to complete Bound in Sorrow III and defeat Scorn with precision final blows. I finished the opening mission, visited the Crown of Sorrow vendor in the H.E.L.M., and pushed through the first three Sever missions. Then I needed 75 precision kills against Scorn. I farmed Nightmare Containment on the Derelict Leviathan because the enemy density was generous and most combatants were Scorn. A hand cannon or scout rifle made the headshots feel like tapping coins into a slot.

Nightmare Containment II

Nightmare Containment II wanted 75 tiers of the public event across the season. Each full run counted as three tiers if I cleared all of them, so the math pointed to about 25 runs. I did not grind this in one sitting. I let it accumulate while I chased other objectives, the way a shelf collects books that I keep meaning to read. A few runs a week was enough to keep progress moving.

Binding I

Binding I was the challenge that made me pay attention to my Vestiges of Dread. I needed to bind Nightmares after Tier III of Nightmare Containment ten times and open five Opulent Chests on the Derelict Leviathan. The chests were accessed in the Royal Pools and Pleasure Gardens with Opulent Keys. Both objectives were retroactive, which was a relief. Binding Nightmares felt like returning library books to a shelf that keeps rearranging itself: I had to spend 500 Vestiges for bonus loot ten times, and the chest hunt added a small scavenger loop.

Loadout II

Loadout II asked for 100 shotgun or fusion rifle final blows on the Derelict Leviathan and 50 powerful Nightmare defeats. I farmed Nightmare Containment and the endlessly spawning side areas. The powerful Nightmares had to be on the Leviathan; kills elsewhere did not count. Sever - Grief was my quick fix for the miniboss and boss kills. I kept a fusion rifle equipped and treated the whole task like a plumbing repair: short bursts, steady pressure, no wasted motion.

Throne World Activities

Throne World Activities was a bounty-and-exploration challenge. I grabbed bounties from Fynch, completed patrols and public events, and looted Lost Sectors in Savathun's Throne World. The reward was 25,000 XP and 75 Bright Dust. I combined this with Long-Range Calibration, which required 100 long-range final blows in the Throne World with Pulse Rifles, Bows, or Trace Rifles. Lost Sectors gave bonus progress, so three or four clears handled most of it. Prometheus Lens, Trinity Ghoul, and Graviton Lance were comfortable picks.

Power Broker

Power Broker required reaching Power Level 1,560 through powerful rewards and Prime Engrams. Artifact Power did not contribute. In that season, 1,560 was the hard cap, so Powerful Gear sources were the main road and Pinnacle Gear gave the biggest jumps. My habit was to complete a Pinnacle challenge, then fill gaps with Powerful sources, then take another Pinnacle. The Competitive playlist also dropped a lot of Powerful Gear if I could string together wins. I would not chase this in 2026 without checking the current power system, because the numbers and caps have moved on.

Primeval Entourage

Primeval Entourage sent me into Gambit to defeat 100 Taken. Blockers, Primeval Envoys, and the Primeval itself gave far more progress. I defended the bank, killed Blockers when they appeared, and focused the Envoys during damage phases. It was not a complicated task, but it rewarded attention to the flow of the match rather than raw kill count.

Scorched Earth

Scorched Earth was the odd one. I needed 50 Guardian defeats in Team Scorched, and charged detonations in midair or on surfaces gave bonus progress. The Scorch Cannon behaved like a Special Grenade Launcher: holding fire and releasing triggered a midair detonation. I learned to lead my shots and release the trigger when the enemy was near the projectile. Sticking a shot to a surface and supercharging it turned the cannon into a mine. At first the mode felt like trying to swat fireflies with a garden hose, awkward and wild, but once I stopped treating it like a normal rifle the kills came more easily.

Ultimate Champion

Ultimate Champion required 60 Champion defeats in any Nightfall strike on Hero difficulty or higher, with bonus progress at higher tiers. Hero tier was matchmade and manageable. I brought Gjallarhorn or Parasite to remove Champions outright when needed. Master tier spawned more Champions and gave faster progress, but it also demanded more coordination. For a solo player like me, Hero runs were the steadier path.

My Summary Table

Challenge What I Did Reward Noted
Sorrow Bound III Finished Bound in Sorrow III, then 75 Scorn precision kills Objective only in my notes
Nightmare Containment II Cleared 75 tiers of Nightmare Containment Objective only in my notes
Binding I Bound Nightmares 10 times, opened 5 Opulent Chests Figments of Darkness + 25,000 XP
Loadout II 100 shotgun or fusion kills, 50 powerful Nightmares Objective only in my notes
Throne World Activities Bounties, patrols, public events, Lost Sectors 25,000 XP + 75 Bright Dust
Power Broker Reached 1,560 Power without Artifact Power 25,000 XP + 75 Bright Dust
Long-Range Calibration 100 long-range kills in Throne World 25,000 XP + 75 Bright Dust
Primeval Entourage 100 Taken defeats in Gambit 25,000 XP + 75 Bright Dust
Scorched Earth 50 Guardian defeats in Team Scorched 25,000 XP + 75 Bright Dust
Ultimate Champion 60 Champion defeats in Hero+ Nightfalls 25,000 XP + 75 Bright Dust

Looking back from 2026, I see this week as a lesson in stacking goals. The Throne World bounty challenge and the long-range calibration task overlapped neatly. Nightmare Containment fed several objectives at once. The only real outliers were Team Scorched and the Nightfall Champion grind, which asked for focused sessions rather than passive progress. If I were replaying this old list today, I would start with the storyline, let the Leviathan tasks accumulate, and save the PvP and Nightfall pushes for when I wanted a sharper kind of attention. The rewards are historical now, but the planning rhythm still feels useful: a tide chart, a shelf, and a garden hose, all in one season.
